MAINTENANCE ADVICE FOR MOTORCYCLISTS

  • The first step in the spring maintenance process is to visually check the battery. If it is not a closed system, you will need to check the electrolyte level and re-fill it using deionised water as required.
  • In cases of water-cooled engines, it is essential to check the prescribed coolant level in the cooling system. If fluid level is low, it should be re-filled. Make sure that you always re-fill with ready-mixed coolant.
  • Motor oil will age even if you do not ride your motorcycle and thus the engine oil and the filter should be changed prior to every season.
  • Quality and status of engine oil are very critical factors regarding engine lifetimes. That is why you should always apply motor oil in accordance with the performance level and viscosity grade prescribed by the engine manufacturer.
  • In case of two-stroke engines with mixture lubrication, you should always follow the oil - gasoline mix ratio specified in the operating manual! By applying the right mix ratio you will reduce the chances of engine failure or breakdown and prevent spark plug problems as well as reducing pollution emissions in to the environment.
  • Gasoline behaves fairly aggressively with rubber parts, so always empty all fuel from the tank prior to the winter season and then keep the motor running so as to totally run out of fuel.
  • Checking the brake and brake fluid levels is critical to safety. If the fluid level in the brake oil tank is low, you should refill it using the brake fluid specified in the operating manual.
  • The drive chain needs on-going care and maintenance. Using special spray designed to clean chains and containing a lubricating formula, your motorbike can enjoy a longer lifetime and better performance.
