The period of 70´s and 80´s
Between 1970 and 1975, SLOVNAFT continued to extend its refining and petrochemical bases with new production units. The range of its products was enriched by dimethyl terephtalate, which is a base material for production of polyester fibres and SLOVNAFT started to produce the first Czechoslovak polypropylene named Tatren. In this period, an aromate chemistry complex was erected enabling to produce benzene, toluene, orthoxylene, ethylbenzene and xylenes.
An even larger complex known as the Petrochemical Complex of the Slovak Republic was erected by SLOVNAFT in the period from 1975 to 1980. In such a way, a large production basis with production of ethylbenzene, ethylene oxide, glycols, aromates and other important products was established in Vlčie hrdlo. The highest added value of oil was represented by more than 160 thousand tonnes of Bralen polyethylene and more than 40 thousand tonnes of Tatren polypropylene, produced yearly. In 1988, production unit producing 55 thousand tonnes of n-alkanes was launched.
In addition to continuing the expansion of production, the 70´s and 80´s passed under the sign of priority given to ecological projects. SLOVNAFT established a hydraulic protection of groundwaters, erected a mechanical-chemical-biological waste water treatment plant that is still one of the most modern and complex ecological projects in the world, put into operation solid waste incineration plants and other ecological projects.
