Air protection
Air quality in the vicinity of the Slovnaft refinery is measured at three outside monitoring stations: Podunajské Biskupice, Rovinka and Vlčie hrdlo, Slovnaft’s headquarters. In this latter location, air quality is also affected by an urban municipal waste incinerator and heavy traffic.
We reduce emission volumes from our air pollution sources by investing in technology. The most significant step taken include flue gas desulphurisation at heating plants which reduce SO2 emissions by circa 80%. In addition, process furnace burners have been replaced by low-emission burners, thus achieving reductions in NOx emissions. We have also replaced outdated hydrocarbon gas liquefying equipment with a more effective new unit expected to further reduce VOC emissions in the Bratislava area. The gradual modernisation of production technology guarantees a reduction in pollutant emissions. Slovnaft regularly announces the extent of air pollution in the production site's vicinity.
