Checking engine oil level and expert oil changes

Regular engine oil level checks are indispensable, because a too low oil level can cause inefficient lubrication leading to reduced operating safety and shorter engine life.

Whenever you re-fill, take care to ensure you are using the right oil viscosity grade and specification.

If your vehicle uses an engine oil other than a MOL product but you want to fill-up with a MOL branded product, you may freely go ahead because MOL lubricants are produced from modern base oils and additives and thus mix perfectly with other engine oils. Such blending will have no detrimental effects and will provide perfect engine protection, even after such refills.

Please follow the instructions below when changing engine oil

  • Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions regarding the oil change period.
  • Always select engine oil viscosity in line with climatic and weather conditions.
  • Always use engine oil with performance prescribed by the manufacturer (or higher). Always check the manufacturer’s instructions in the Service Manual and follow them carefully.
  • Using multi-grade engine oils with colder viscosity (0W, 5W, or eventually 10W) is recommended so you may also save significant quantities of engine fuel and achieve higher engine efficiency.
  • If mileage is lower than the figure recommended for the oil change period, you are advised to change the engine oil in accordance with the period recommended by the manufacturer - typically 1 year.
  • Whenever changing engine oil, the oil filter should also be replaced. When changing engine oil, we need to minimise the use of oil remaining in the system because it may have negative effects on the fresh lubricant’s quality and reduce its performance.
  • If you have an older and used engine, selecting higher viscosity engine oil can reduce or even eliminate unwanted engine oil loss.
  • Using any performance-enhancing or friction inhibitor additive after an oil change is NOT recommended, because it may upset the balance of the engine oil structure and, as a consequence, impede efficiency! If you have a new car, you may even lose the guarantees and warranties for the engine and the lubricant.
  • Please check the engine oil level regularly to ensure it is the right level required by the engine! A too low oil level may cause inefficient lubrication, thus eventually risking operating safety and reducing engine life.
  • Whenever re-filling engine oil, carefully select the oil viscosity grade and specification and re-fill oil only with the same or higher performance as that already in the engine.
